My Personal Story
MercySeat
Welcome to MercySeat! You must be thinking… what is a Mercy Seat?
The Mercy Seat, also known as throne of God, is a gold lid that covered the Ark of the Covenant in the Bible. It was a place of divine access, communion, and propitiation. The mercy seat is also known as the kapporeth in Hebrew, which translates to “propitiatory” in English.
In the Old Testament, before Jesus’ death, it was a place where the High Priest sprinkled blood from sacrifices to atone for sin. It was a place of reconciliation between God and his people. It symbolizes a greater atonement, and the formation of a New Covenant (Hebrews 9:3–15).
The continual sacrifice for sin under the Mosaic covenant became obsolete following the once-for-all divine exchange that took place at the Calvary! All our sins have been punished at the cross and through Jesus we have received the gifts of righteousness and eternal life.
My Personal Story
I suffer from anxiety and depression since my childhood. It manifested itself in the form of an eating disorder which went undiagnosed until it got really bad during my teenage years, with me weighing a mere 34kg.
Under the advice of a close family member (whose intentions were good), I decided to experiment an alternative treatment that caused an unwanted episode of a life-threatening medical accident, which led to great suffering and pain. It took me months to rehabilitate my body, mind and spirit because the traumatic experience had intensified my anxiety and depression. I was in a lot of pain and bedridden for months. So much so that I cried out to God and prayed in Tongues daily.
Through the dark clouds came a beautiful light. I channelled all my negative energies to sketch, create and design illustrations and concepts that was truly God-inspired. After full recovery, the designs got set aside as I continued my daily life as a white-collar worker. After that duration, it felt as if I was just going through the motions.
For some reason this year, I got led and prompted by the Holy Spirit to launch MercySeat. Perhaps because the world is becoming more chaotic, there is so much bad news daily – disease outbreaks, accidents and death, retrenchments, war and rumors of war. I feel that in such times, it’s important to start sharing the good news! I chose this name because of what it signifies: atonement, hope that soon there will be light at the end of a dark tunnel, and a connection with God.
God spoke to me through Psalms 119:105 – “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Just as God illuminated my path and helped me navigate through the dark valleys, I hope to be a Lightbringer and spread His hope and mercy to people far and wide across the globe. As this world turns darker and darker, we can rejoice in the knowledge that as Children of God, we do not need to live in fear. Look to Jesus and his finished works!
I hope that the unique personalized designs and gifts that I have carefully curated for MercySeat resonates with you at different seasons of your lives. It can also be a simple gift to bless someone who is going through a hard time.
Feel free to drop me an email if you have any enquiries about our products or if you just feel like sharing how God touched and transformed your life. I would be glad to know more! I will be posting the stories at the blog section to serve as an encouragement to others ensuring the anonymity of the writer, if they so desire.
