MercySeat
Welcome to MercySeat! You must be thinking… what is a Mercy Seat?
The MercySeat, also known as throne of God, is a gold lid that covered the Ark of the Covenant in the Bible. It was a place of divine access, communion, and propitiation. The MercySeat is also known as the kapporeth in Hebrew, which translates to “propitiatory” in English.
In the Old Testament, before Jesus’ death, it was a place where the High Priest sprinkled blood from sacrifices to atone for sin. It was a place of reconciliation between God and his people. It symbolizes a greater atonement, and the formation of a New Covenant (Hebrews 9:3–15).
The continual sacrifice for sin under the Mosaic covenant became obsolete following the once-for-all divine exchange that took place at the Calvary! All our sins have been punished at the cross and through Jesus we have received the gifts of righteousness and eternal life.
